Celebrating 1,000 Hits and Counting

Today I reached 1,000 hits on this blog.

Thanks to everyone who is reading and commenting on the content I post.

Some of my favorite posts have come very recently:

What would you all like to see on this blog in the future? What content you would (the readers) like covered? What am I doing well or not so well? I want feedback from you all, positive or negative.

Twitter Tuesday: @FreeMountaineer

This Twitter Tuesday post is a special post because recently one of my Twitter friends became dissociated with an organization he helped found.

Today’s Twitter Tuesday user: @FreeMountaineer (formerly@OpPTSD_Mac.)

@FreeMountaineer is a United States Army Veteran who Served from 1994-2004 as an M1 Tank Crewman and a UH-60 Helicopter Mechanic, according to OperationPTSD.org. Mac was reaching out to those suffering through his Twitter and on OperationPTSD.org, since he is no longer associated with the organization, I hope he is still working to end the stigma of PTSD.

Raven Drum Foundation

Twitter has been a powerful tool in feeding my blog, and introducing me to people all over who share my passion for veterans and veterans’ issues. Recently I was Re-Tweeted on Twitter by @stikrick; Rick Allen, the drummer for Def Leppard. He RT’d a post by @OpPTSD_Mac about Zane Love, then @stikrick posted an @reply to me:

@HeatherBray Thank for bringing awareness to PTSD. http://bit.ly/3f1p4r Do you know about Raven Drum? http://bit.ly/4mjbBF

The second link introduced me to The Raven Drum Foundation, a foundation co-founded by Rick Allen. The Raven Drum Foundation was founded in 2001 to harness the therapeutic benefits of drumming.

Raven Drum Foundation’s connection to veterans is their “Veteran Resiliency Project,” which is “an innovative healing program for veterans, active duty military, and their families,” according to their website. The “Veteran Resiliency Project” is using the benefits of drumming to help relieve stress, combat injuries, anxiety and depression being suffered by military personnel and their families.

In addition to the “Veteran Resiliency Project” through the Raven Drum Foundation, Def Leppard gave away free tickets to their summer tour to active duty and military veterans.

Def Leppard and the Raven Drum Foundation will be featured on CBS’ The Today Show on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 8 a.m. Eastern time.

I’ll be watching to learn more about this organization, will you?

Introducing…Twitter Tuesdays

Drumroll please…it’s Twitter Tuesday!

This is a new type of post being added to the blog. Every Tuesday I will showcase a new Twitter user that either found me on Twitter, or that I found Tweeting about veterans.

Today’s Twitter Tuesday user: @OperationPTSD

@OperationPTSD is the Twitter user connected with OperationPTSD.org and their mission is to bring awareness to PTSD and those afflicted with the tragic ailment. They aimed to end the stigma associated with PTSD, and openly admit the two co-founders of Operation PTSD both have PTSD. They are also the amazing Twitter user behind what will be some of my biggest posts to date: the story of an Army Ranger with PTSD being forced out of the Army without an Honorable Discharge.

OperationPTSD.org was maintained by two Twitter users: @OpPTSD_Jason and @OpPTSD_Mac, but they recently split and OperationPTSD.org became OperationPTSD.com.

Add this user to your Twitter followers, and like always, don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @heatherbray. I’d love to hear from you. Happy Twittering!
